Honoring a Legend: Leandro Lo’s Legacy at Copa Podio

If the mat where Copa Podio matches take place ever earns a name, it should be Leandro Lo’s. The 5X black belt world champion was the face of the event, dominating the competition and securing three Copa Podio titles in just 12 months.

On October 22 of that year, Lo’s relentless pace and technical brilliance earned him the heavyweight title after defeating five formidable opponents: Isaque Bahiense (2-0), Cassio Francis (toe hold), Fellipe Trovo (8-0), Nelson Pontes (1-0 advantages), and Alex Trans (2-0). His dominance at Copa Podio was just a small piece of his larger legacy in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, where he reigned as one of the sport’s most innovative and accomplished competitors.

Tragically, Lo’s life was cut short in August 2022, a loss that sent shockwaves through the grappling world. Beyond his accolades, he was a mentor, a leader, and a fighter who inspired countless athletes with his aggressive passing game and unbreakable mindset. His impact on jiu-jitsu continues to be felt, and his techniques and philosophy live on through those he trained and inspired.

In his honor, we revisit one of many moments where he shared his knowledge. Click play, study this open guard sweep, and take his legacy to the mats.

Rest in peace, champ. Your influence will never fade.
