On Borrowed Time, On the Verge of Mayhem: CJI 2 Drops a Bombshell

Craig Jones might joke about being on borrowed time, but judging by Episode 1 of his new show, he’s right on schedule to blow the roof off the jiu-jitsu scene once again. In the first installment of “On Borrowed Time,” Jones and co-host Alex Wendling take us behind the curtain of CJI 2, revealing a few big plays, a few wildcard elements, and just enough chaos to remind us this is still Craig’s world. The rest of us are just heel-hooked in it.
Let’s get the big one out of the way. Greg Souders of Standard Jiu-Jitsu has officially been named head coach of the Americas Misfits Team. He’s bringing in precision over flash and logic over popularity contests. His first confirmed athlete is DeAndre Corbe at 66 kg, and Souders makes it clear. He’s not running trials. He’s evaluating history, rule set versatility, and even performance in absolute divisions. Want on the team? Do well and reach out. But don’t expect a reality show casting call.
This isn't your typical team setup. CJI 2’s format is shaking off tradition in favor of something closer to pro wrestling with submissions. Think Royal Rumble. Think real-time decisions. One athlete gets tapped, and the coach has seconds to call the next. No brackets, no predictability, no prearranged rosters. Just tension, adrenaline, and strategy under fire.
And yes, Craig Jones will be competing, despite being too busy collecting foot tattoos and doing commercials to properly train. This time, he’s matched up against an Olympic wrestler. No Gabby Garcia jokes here. He’s going to have to show up ready or risk getting rag-dolled on his own card. According to Craig, the feet are terrible, but the show must go on.
The episode also highlights something bigger than the chaos. The Guardian Project is continuing to grow. What started in Oakland is now impacting kids across Mongolia, Peru, and Ethiopia. Over 500 kids now train jiu-jitsu for free. It’s not just about medals or mats. It’s about giving young people something powerful. The upcoming matching campaign will give fans and sponsors the chance to help expand the effort. You can learn more or support it directly at guardiangym.org and through the Fight Foundation.
As for tickets, they’re not live yet, but the drop is coming. You’ll want to be ready. The event is stacked right after Masters Worlds in Vegas, which means the entire jiu-jitsu universe will already be in town. According to Craig, “People will be looking for any excuse to stay in Vegas just one more day.” And CJI 2 is a damn good excuse. You can stay updated and get ticket info at CJI2.com.
