Five gold medals put the UAE at the top of the Asian Games jiu-jitsu table. Two all-Emirati finals showed how much of that success came from depth within the team.
The UAE finished the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 with eight medals: five golds, two silvers and one bronze. Competition ran from October 1–3 in Nagoya, Japan.
The five titles set a new Asian Games best for UAE jiu-jitsu, surpassing the four golds won at Hangzhou 2022, which took place in 2023, and the two won at Jakarta 2018.
Two Finals, Four UAE Medals
The women’s 48 kg and men’s 62 kg finals each paired UAE teammates. Balqees Alhashmi won women’s 48 kg gold, with Al Anoud Al Harbi taking silver. Khaled Al Shehhi claimed the men’s 62 kg title ahead of Omar Al Suwaidi.
Those two divisions accounted for half the team’s medal haul. The UAE had secured both gold and silver before either final began.
Ahmed Andeez added gold in the men’s 69 kg division. Mahdi Al Awlaqi won the men’s 77 kg title, while Asma Alhosani took women’s 52 kg gold. Amaar Alhosani completed the medal tally with bronze at men’s 94 kg.
A Higher Mark
The result moved the UAE’s Asian Games jiu-jitsu gold count from two in Jakarta to four in Hangzhou and five in Nagoya. This time, the titles were spread across three men’s divisions and two women’s divisions.
The record is the headline. The two all-UAE finals give it another dimension: in those brackets, the team did more than produce a champion. It occupied both places in the final.
